Shadow Year
Meet Shadow Year
Every year is a shadow year if you are a vampire. That was just a thought I had before I wrote this interview. I wanted to share it with you and I hope you like it. Anyway, Shadow year is a rock and roll that's got some kick to it. With influences from Garage and Shoegaze Shadow Year packages it all up into a tantalizing mysterious bundle. They have a new single out now called Godspeed and you can hit play right now and give it a little listen.
Down below we get to talking about pictures, party tricks, and Marylyn Manson. It’s all down there folks. Get a move on and check it out.

Some questions with Shadow Year
Did you go through any musical phases in high school? Has it in any way shaped what you are making now?
Scout: Yes. I was involved in musicals and choir and dated a bunch of musicians and went to a lot of local shows. It most certainly shaped what I'm making now but has evolved over time.
Tyler: Musical influences were Celine Dion and Marilyn Manson. Learned everything I know through em.
Are you all self-taught or did you take lessons/study music?
Tyler: Mostly self-taught. Scout went to engineering school in Warrensburg Missouri but was smoking too much pot to retain theory. Our Drummer played jazz drums in School. Ted went to a liberal arts college in Portland for musicology. Tyler learned how to play smoke on the water in his mom’s garage in 7th grade.
What is your take on the current climate of post-punk music?
Scout: It's doing alright. wish people cared less about being cool & making the "scene."
Tyler: It's doing alright. Wish people cared more.
If you could only play one instrument for the rest of your life what would it be? Why?
Scout: Cello. cus it’s really pretty sounding.
Tyler: The Kazoo.
Do you have a party trick?
Scout: I am double jointed and can do some freaky stuff with my arms behind my back.. also can flip my eyelids up.
Tyler: I can blow Bubbles with my spit. Ted: picked up some party tricks from manson...if you know what I mean ;p
Where was the photo taken on the cover of your album "Hush Hush Panic"?
Tyler: Blackies in Newport Beach in California. It was our first tour.. it was of ted!
Did you ever get grounded growing up? If so why?
Scout: ...ohhhhh ya.. coming from the midwest… I got em.... I made a video with my friend when we were 11 to "Black Sweat," by Prince and we were dancing under the covers and it looked so wrong.. Our parents found it and grounded us from each other for 3 months. I also got grounded for smoking pot that was laced with PCP when I was 15. That was sick.
Tyler: No never
Ted: No
John: Yes. Legally can't talk bout it.
Do you drive? Are you a good driver?
Ted: We all drive. Tylers the best driver.
If the sky wasn't blue what color would u want it to be?
Scout: Black
Tyler: Yellow like peepee.
