Spicy food kills me so I guess bland it is
Some questions with Peter Valcarcel
What was the last book you read? Did you like it?
Catcher In The Rye...loved it.
If you could give yourself ten years ago any advice what would it be?
Take more art classes
There’s a very playful abstraction in your work. Where do you start and then how do you make decisions moving forward?
I am inspired by shapes, I normally start drawing with pen and paper and just wait for a sign that talks back to me about something that I relate to. My last series Bones is an example of that, I started drawing shapes and after a few drawings, I said those look like bones thus the series was created.
Do you drink coffee/tea? How do you take it?
Coffee black.
What have you recently been listening to in the studio / making art?
Bee Gees, their melodies make me draw better.
You work with a number of retailers around the country. How has your experience been as both an artist and an entrepreneur? What tips would you give to young artists at the beginning of their careers?
Talk to everyone you meet about what you are doing, seek mentors and keep your ears wide open and be very active on social media, it's free.
Any final comments? (This is your electronic soapbox for one last answer.)
Art should inspire you and tell you a story but most of all, it should make you think and create your own thoughts. Don't listen to people that say you must know about art to appreciate art. If art makes you think then you have appreciated art.
