Holy Hive
Meet Holy Hive
Holy moly does Holy Hive make some real tasty tunes.
With multi-instrumentalist Joe Harrison at the helm, this band is one to note. Their laid back ear worms will take you for a trippy little ride right on through to some lazy, hazy, and crazy days.
Below, we chit chat about their Planned Parenthood performance, the soul music greats, and their ideal bank robbery scenario.
Cool cool good good cheerio chaps give it a read ttfn. <3
MASTERPIECE THEATRE, A Mad-Lib by Holy Hive.
No story ever told seems to HASTILY capture the hearts and MARBLES of BOMBASTIC readers as does the legend of King Arthur and the DENTISTS of the SILKY table. If we choose to believe the Arthur legend and go along with the story that this CONGEALED king removed from a BLUE stone the CRUNCHY sword called Excalibur, then we are giving ourselves permission to enjoy this evening's performance. So without further ado let us visit the kingdom of Camelot, where CHILDISH knights perform heroic BOBS, rescue a MARINE BIOLOGISTS in a JACKET and ride off on majestic EAGLES.in search of adventure
Would You Rather
Would you rather all the glass in the world be made of stained glass, or every light in the world is replaced with a disco ball? Why?
I’d go with stained glass. While I love both stained glass and disco balls, I think there can be too much of a good thing. I think every light in the world as a disco ball would drive me crazy.
Some Questions with Holy Hive
What was your first live performance like?
It was a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood put on by Rally and Rise in Brooklyn right after Trump was elected. Very meaningful show for us.
What is one thing you always forget to do?
Fix my coffee grinder.
What drew you to soul music and who are your biggest influences?
I was drawn to soul music at an early age when learning to play drums. My teacher had me learn all the Booker T and the MGs songs and I was hooked. Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, Bill Withers.
Where are you usually at a house party?
In the kitchen snacking on popcorn and nachos.
What is your favorite word/phrase?
Son of a Biscuit.
If you could write a song using only one instrument and one word, which would it be and why?
Guitar and ooh. Then I can write a pretty song without lyrics
What is one thing you always forget to do?
Respond to emails.
What was the first instrument you learned to play?
Drums.
Which was better Rock Band, Guitar Hero, or Dance Dance Revolution?
DDR is awesome but incredibly difficult. Fun to watch the pros do their thing tho.
Have you or would you ever break up with someone over text message?
Nope
Do your different backgrounds bring any influence to your creative style?
Yes, I think one’s backgrounds bring a unique viewpoint to the table in any collaborative creative endeavor. For instance, Paul’s education and upbringing allows him to infuse the band with some really obscure lyrical references and classical influences while my background in the Brooklyn soul scene brings in a very strong backbeat.
What is your dream bank robbery scenario (location, methods, is it a success or a mess)?
Probably robbing the Koch Brothers private accounts, with some sort of scanners-esque hacker crew and storyline.
Any final comments? (This is your electronic soapbox for one last answer.)
We’re so happy to be able to make music and to connect with people around the world. We love you!
