A self-portrait by Young Dinero Banks
Would You Rather
your sense of smell or sense of hearing be a hundred times stronger? Why?
I’d rather my sense of smell just so I can track peoples smells if needed. Or always know if there’s a gas leak to prevent putting myself in danger.
Some questions with Young Dinero Banks
Were you involved in any other acts before you started releasing work under Young Dinero Banks?
I was never involved in any acts before rapping under the name young dinero banks. However I did go by only dinero at first. I extended the name to further separate myself from any other rappers with similar names.
How do you keep your immense creative momentum going?
I keep my creativity open by giving myself time to create songs. I don’t rush the process or try to bust out 20 songs in a day. I’ll spend all day working on 2 to 3 songs all recorded and engineered by myself. I like letting my creativity flow naturally rather than force myself to make music all the time. Also listening to different genres broadens my scope of creativity.
What song do you think would be the most challenging yet most rewarding to sample?
I think Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean would be amazing to sample just because it’s my favorite song of his and what could be more rewarding then recreating a legends art.
What kinds of narratives do you gravitate towards in your writing?
I always try to write about my own life and experiences. So I gravitate toward reality and what I’m going through on the daily. It could be stress, relationships, or just having fun with my boys.
What role do you think social media plays in an artist's career?
I think social media has become extremely important from an artist stand point. Not only can the internet launch your career but it can also allow you to connect with fans all over the world.
How has what it means to be a rapper from New York changed overtime?
I think being a rapper from NY has changed a lot because we were originally known for our lyrical raps and flows. It’s now become more of a mix with some on that melodic wave while others are still on that lyrical flow. I think I’m a little in between the two.
If you could make work with only one producer for the rest of your career, who would you pick and why?
Metro boomin because he always has those bangers. He makes beats that always stand out to me and I have respect for him.
Any final comments? (This is your electronic soapbox for one last answer.)
The last thing I wanna say is that I love everyone who is showing love and supporting me on my musical journey. They all push me to keep going and I’ll always have love for the ones who supported when no one else did.
