Would You Rather

be able to smell the future or hear into the past? Please explain why.

Hear into the past I suppose. You could potentially use this ability to give you some insight into the future. I'd also just rather not smell anything haha.

How did "Wreath of Tongues" come together

Wreath of Tongues is the brainchild of our guitarist Russ. Formed in 2016, they wrote 2 EPs, played a ton of shows, and were on their way to completing their first full length. I was fortunate enough to have been asked to join after a lineup change in the winter of 2019. Having known and played shows with these guys in other bands I was excited to develop this concept of 'Penance' for the record and completing something we've become very proud of.

What do you hope listeners will take from your latest release, Penance?

That sense of fulfillment when justice is served to those who deserve it the most.

What was the best piece of advice you ever received?

Con el tiempo todo se consigue, ten pacienca which translates to 'In time everything is acquired, have patience' which is something my mother told again and again growing up. I think about it more as i get older and how much patience has benefited just about every aspect of my life.

If you could make one change to the way the music industry is today what would it be?

Keeping the artist's best interests in mind without controlling their creative output.

Who are some of your greatest musical influences?

If I'm going, to be honest, I owe a lot to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater video game series. I probably would not have been exposed to bands like Unsane, AFI, Rage Against the Machine, Public Enemy, among many others at a young age. I ended up diving into more punk, hardcore, and hip hop as a result of playing those games growing up.

Can your music be broken down into a formula?

It's definitely a happy medium between all of our influences. I've never been in a band where the writing was so organic and just flowed. Either one of us can come up with a riff or idea and just bounce that off each other until we have a song that feels complete.

Do you find performing or writing your music to be cathartic?

Absolutely. Before I started playing in bands I used my writing to cope with issues I had throughout my life. Performing then elevated that cathartic release significantly. I'm grateful over the fact it's become an outlet for me.

How do you manage to inject so much energy and aggression into your work?

This sort of relates to the last question but I'm known as a mellow and generally easy going guy. It isn't uncommon for me to get the 'how can THAT come out of YOU?' response. The music itself emits aggression that I would otherwise release in less positive ways.

Do you prefer playing shows in NYC or Long Island? Why

I personally have no preference. We're definitely lucky to have great venues like Saint Vitus, Gold Sounds, Amityville Music Hall, and Revolution who have hosted us more times than we can count. Playing either is great.

What is the all-time best toy from your childhood? Why?

Its a tie between my street sharks and ninja turtles action figures. I used to pin them all against each other and battle them out I was obsessed haha.

What is your most memorable live performance to date?

Our most recent record release shows were insane. First night sold out at Vitus and had Shadow Snakes from Syracuse and the recently reunited Curl Up and Die. Second night was purely LI based at AMH with our good friends in Carcosa, Blame God, Godseyes, and Visualize Industrial Collapse. The response was amazing and it definitely set the tone for 2020.

Any final comments? (This is your electronic soapbox for one last answer.)

Even though we just put out a record last month we have a bunch of newer music in the works. We're going to try and play out as much as we can this year. We can't thank everyone enough for checking out 'Penance'. We're just getting started. Peace.
