Meet Simone

Fresh off their latest release “Sad Songs for Depressed Girls” Simone Lipkin stopped by to have a few words with us. This NY based singer-songwriter crafts delightfully heartfelt tunes with thoughtful lyrics, and an intimate production style. Get to know them a little better as we chat about their latest release, family, and sandwiches.

Would You Rather

have the power to make things you touch turn invisible or shrink?

I would rather have the power to make things shrink. It would be much easier to carry gear around. Turning things invisible sounds fun but would probably be less helpful to me in the long run, realistically speaking.

Some questions with Simone

What does your family think of your music?

My family are the most supportive people in my life. They’ve been to pretty much every single show I’ve ever had, and sing the words to every song. I don’t think I could have anything I have right now without the constant effort and support my family puts into my music. I feel so lucky to have them.

If your music was a sandwich, what would it be? Why?

If my music was a sandwich it would be my favorite sandwich. That means its the Vegan BLT from By Chloe. I honestly have no idea what’s in it but it makes me happy, so theres a correlation.

What was the creative drive behind your latest release “Sad Songs For Depressed Girls”?

I made this EP entirely in quarantine, and it was my first project I ever produced by myself. I really just wanted to make something universal, that everyone could relate to. I hesitate to release too many sad songs, but I think it’s really important to get vulnerable and real in your writing. My favorite thing about songwriting is the fact that I could be helping people that are going through something hard or challenging, and that’s wanted I wanted to do with “Sad Songs for Depressed Girls”.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Everything costs money. It sucks. I know that’s just the way of the world, but there are so many people who want to pursue a music career that simply can’t because of financial roadblocks. I wish that it was all more affordable. That’d be nice.

Is writing a cathartic experience for you?

I think that’s the perfect word to describe it. Writing has saved my life so many times. It has gotten me out of really dark places. It’s always been really hard for me to say what I’m feeling all the time. With songwriting, it feels so natural for me and so therapeutic. It’s the best gift.

What do you want your listeners to take away from your music?

I always want people to feel something listening to my music. Whether it’s happiness, sadness, anger, lust. I just want people to get something out of it. My favorite thing about music is listening to a song and connecting with in emotionally. That’s all I could ever ask for with my songs.

What are your top five favorite animals?

In no particular order I’m gonna say dog, polar bear, horse, dolphin, and zebra.
