Meet Petite League

Petite League puts out Light-hearted vibes with plenty of bite. Lorenzo Cook making up Vocals, guitar, and bass is no stranger to this fine blog. The rocker stopped by once again to give us the lowdown on their recent release ‘JOYRIDER’. Any rock and roll hound worth their salt should also be on the lookout for Petite League’s full-fledged album of the same name coming out on January 8th. Give the track a listen and catch up with the lovely Lorenzo Cook.

Would You Rather

have the power to make things you touch turn invisible or shrink?

The safe answer is to turn things invisible because it’d be useful and fun BUT if I could make things big again, shrinking would have INSANE benefits like, for example, you could shrink your car instead of looking for parking and just put it in your pocket or you could store things in your room really easily. So my answer is invisible unless I can regrow my shrinkies.

Some questions Petite League

How has quarantine been treating you?

Pretty good all things considered! We have a little deck and garden at our apartment in Queens so that has saved us from many a lockdown breakdown. I was working from home already and tried to stay productive during the worst of it in the spring. Now that things have kind of opened up again it’s been good to be able to hang out with my friends again in our little circle of buds. Weird, sad sometimes, but definitely fortunate compared to many others.

How would you like the world to end?

Maybe it’d be cool if something happened to the oxygen levels or something and we all just kinda dozed off without really realizing we were blacking out and we just never woke up. I think that’d be tight because those last moments would be kinda pleasant like when you close your eyes while you’re watching TV and you start thinking “wow this show really doesn’t have a lot of dialogue, that’s kinda perfect I’ll just fill in the visual gaps with my mind” and then you wake up and your laptop is dead and, in the case of the world ending, you’re dead too.

Your latest single “Joyrider” has a playful look at the apocalypse. What brought on these feelings?

I’ve been saying this for a couple years but it has felt like we’ve all gotten pretty obsessed with the End of Days. It’s reflected in a lot of the stuff we consume in terms of entertainment which is usually just a reflection of what we’re afraid of in our actual lives. It’s a little morbid but it’s also just the world we live in. If we’re all going to die I’m not going to end it being miserable.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

The music industry is so loaded with both administrative and ethical issues that I don’t think there is one thing I’d want to change that would make a huge difference.

What I would like to change is that old trope that musicians should only focus on the music and hand-off the “business” side of things to other people. It’s just a way to prop up an industry built on profiting off of musicians not reading contracts or understanding that there are alternative, more creator friendly options out there. There are tons of options that allow musicians to retain ownership of their music and cut out potential industry middle-men that aren’t needed. Plus, knowing how shark infested the music industry is will help when you inevitably interact with it.

What was your first date like?

I was in 8th grade and it was a double date to go see The Hills Have Eyes 2 but me and my friend Justin didn’t look old enough to see it so the girls, who had already got their tickets, watched that together and Justin and I saw Mr. Bean’s Holiday instead which was probably a better movie anyways.

What are your top five favorite animals?

  1. Dogs (labradors #1 but also all)

  2. Bears (all)

  3. Elephants

  4. Cheetahs

  5. Ducks

Any final comments? (This is your electronic soapbox for one last answer.)

Just stay tuned for more Petite League stuff coming down the line and go check out our friend Jonathan Something’s absolutely game changing record Cannibal House Rules and our other buddy Pistol Gang’s record Bobber that we helped release on our label Zap World Records!
