5 New Punk Releases
Hooray for Safety Pins!
If you are like me you probably are really missing getting to go to concerts right about now. More than anything I miss going to punk shows. With that in mind let’s try to capture a little of that magic with these five terrific new punk releases.
Jeff Rosenstock: NO DREAM
The unstoppable fireball that is Jeff Rosenstock returns for another romp. Fans of previous work will find the familiar warm blend of scream along anxiety laden choruses we have come to expect from their work. Listening to this album is easily the closest I have felt to actually being at a concert in a long time.
Died: Less Life
The Family Reviews Interview veterans Died are back with their terrific new album “Less Life”. They have stripped back a little of hot fuzz that covered their 2018 release. What’s left is a a new powerful and calculated machine. A machine powered by deliberately placed cymbal crashes, and slapping bass riffs.
Lust$ickPuppy: COSMIC BROWNIE
Who dosen’t remember those delicious putty like brownies? You know the ones with the really hard chalky sprinkles. Anyway gosh what a terrific release. It is albums like this that make me confident there is a future for punk music. One that does not see it pigeonholed to a formula we have heard a thousand times. Instead we tread new grounds and pull in all kinds of strange beautiful things.
Diet Cig: Do You Wonder About Me?
We have seen heaps of great punk releases in this article but how about we change up the tempo a little bit? Diet Cig throws down some gorgeous emotional slow head banging tracks on their latest release. This album makes me feel things, and it can do the same to you.
Carpool: Erotic Nightmare Summer
Oh what the heck. Lets bring it home with some fantastically pure midwest emo, from upstate New York. Carpool delivers in everything you want out of a great emo/math-y album. Furious drums, ripping riffs and howling vocals. Drink it all in people.
