Margaret Glaspy’s EP is short and sweet, reminiscent of that gruff singer-songwriter style like Fiona Apple and Brandi Carlisle. The songs are easy to listen to, have some really nice guitar licks and hooks running through, and would probably align with anyone who is into Soccer Mommy or Big Thief.
She writes with sincerity, and splices her stomping chorus with languid moments of guitar work. It’s a lovely listen, but just felt a little too simple.

If there is anything more prominent than my throbbing hangover it is Margaret Glaspy’s ability to pluck and strum a little guitar. This chick has got a way around the old wooden neck.
I find myself going back and forth on this one. When the ep kicked off I was put off by the predictable lyrics. Fortunately, this changed in the next song “One Heart and Two Arms”. On this track, the simple rhyming scheme is replaced with a more stream of conscious. This pairs incredibly with her raw and fierce guitar strumming. I enjoyed this song a whole lot. Personally I think it could have been released as a single, and the other two tracks could fall by the wayside.
Lo-fi is a tough sound to pull off. This artist is able to convey emotion, and frenzy without losing all structure. I WANT MORE OF THAT STUFF.
