Would You Rather
have two cats for feet, or two very small wheels for feet? Also please tell us why.
Honestly, I’d rather have neither; both would add no quality to what I do.
Some questions with Kamron Bahani
Where are you as a musician right now? How does it feel looking back at everything you have produced up to this point?
As a musician, I’m at a place of solace; creatively I feel as if I only keep growing by each song, each thought, each passing moment. But when you love something, it may come naturally, but to emphasize your love for it, you must prove your dedication towards it. Energy is reciprocity. Looking back on everything, I’m proud; even when I didn’t necessarily love the songs I’ve made, it led me here. Independent with a niche audience has always been a dream, I keep getting there day by day. The fickleness of a mainstream audience never intrigued me, it only deterred me. I’ve always made what I wanted to make, I’ll keep it that way.
Which would you prefer to have a garden or a fish tank? What would you have in each?
A garden; the way a flower blossoms is the same way a human blossoms. Leonardo Da Vinci used to steal his father’s sketchbook as a child, venture into the forest and attempt to recreate the beauty of the Iris flower. It’s development isn’t too far from the development of a human with great purpose. It grows through it’s stillness, not it’s stagnancy. So, a whole garden.
What art/aesthetics inspire you when collaborating/creating a new album cover?
I usually always aim for something that’s attention grabbing; things that people don’t usually see. Providing a cover that catches the eye has the potential to entice the mind.
What is something you would want to change about the music industry?
The belief that making it in the mainstream industry is the end all be all. The rappers who are in this for the wrong reason, even if they find material success, will never internalize they’re integrity. One thing I would change is the creative control that artists should have the right to possess, as well as the artistic integrity being a reflection of their own musical individuality & prowess.
Who has been your biggest support throughout your musical career?
You have to be your own biggest supporter; people don’t pay for your studio time, they don’t write your lyrics, you do that. So you have to hold yourself down. But on the other hand, inspiration is the driving force of creativity, the people who inspire me know who they are, but my brother is a massive source of inspiration.
You have stated before that you make music with the listener in mind. How do you balance making things for others while staying true to your original feelings?
Because I make music for those who can relate. I never do it to be a driving force, or a household name. I’ll always stay true to myself, because people can feel authenticity. It’s lacking in the industry, so when people feel your truth, they stay true to you.
What are your most important values as a musician?
Owning your masters, buying your beats exclusively, owning 100% of all royalties & treating your music as if it was your baby. You’ll never catch me slipping with that.
Any final comments? (This is your electronic soapbox for one last answer.)
Shameful will be out July 10th on all digital streaming platforms.
