In a gorgeous example of layering and weaving Kaki King’s Teek is a fun song to get lost in. Intrigued by the sound I went and checked out a video of the artist playing which you should also check out here. In the realm of folk fingerpicking can be a magical thing. Kaki King’s technique of raising the strings off the bridge of the guitar opens the sound up for so many beautiful possibilities. “Teex” is stepped in the old world or some time that never existed. Either way it’s the weird kind of folk that I like.

I was blown away by Teek. This beautifully layered acoustic instrumental creates a unique ambience that might be most easily described as….middle-of-the-desert-campfire-but its a mirage-sort-of-deal, you get where I am going? There’s almost a mystical element to the way Kaki King plays and is able to say SO much without any words at all.

Kaki King’s new single “Teek” off forthcoming album Modern Yesterdays weaves a rich textured tapestry of sonic joy. The quality of this folk-fingerpicking is apparent from the sound alone, but take Sean’s advice go watch Kaki’s deftly pick and pluck and form this thing into existence it’s truly something to watch. The song itself screams out as a kind of defiantly and lovingly crafted piece of art, the texture and layers and walls of sound are almost physically tangible, almost as if you can feel Kaki sculpt the sounds right in front of you.
