Meet Jaialai
Lazer tag, polo, sack race. Up until today these would be the sports to spark fear into those faint of heart. That all changed however when we got wind of this powerhouse indie rock four piece. JAIALAI is here so hit the deck and start doing the worm. We are gearing up to post our review of their single “Sunshine”. Until then lets learn a little more about the band. Check it out below!
What was your first show like as a band?
Oscar Sardiñas: It was quick, all the songs were played faster than usual and Jovi was sick. It was a lot of fun though.
Jovi Adames: We were still getting to know each other! And personally I was nervous. Very anxious. But overcoming that has also helped me overcome other anxieties.
What was your first pet? Did you get along well?
Oscar Sardiñas: My first pet was an orange cat I named Red. I was a terrible owner and would regularly grab him by the tail. He was a wonderful cat and never snapped at me. I've since learned this is bad for ethical and moral reasons.
Jovi Adames: My first pet was a PUUUUUG. and I loved him. He snored and made me company at night. And he jumped off the window it was terrible.
What was your first date like?
Oscar Sardiñas: I don't remember, is that bad? It was probably awkward and I probably wore a lot of cologne and hair gel.
Jovi Adames: I remember the first I kissss. It was at a cruise I went with my dad. She was older and it was a summer love. Never knew from her again (sahd)
What was the first instrument you ever owned?
Oscar Sardiñas: An epiphone acoustic that tore my fingers to shreds. Thank you!
Jovi Adames: There was a piano in my house. But personal instrument would be a Gibson Explorer. I wanted to go full metal at the timer. Still have it!
What was the first sport you ever played? How did it go?
Oscar Sardiñas: Soccer (Futbol)! It went well and I became obsessed. I was a midfielder and I loved it. Still do!
Jovi Adames: I believe it was baseball and I loved it. But then I started playing futbol (soccer) and that has been my love ever since.
When was the first time you got drunk? How did it go?
Oscar Sardiñas: I think it was during high school at an unnamed place in Miami Beach! I believe I mixed tequila, beer and wine -_- and got sick, it was terrible.
Jovi Adames: lol pretty late. I was against alcohol for a while. My first time was when I graduated from high school and all it took was a couple of beers. Then I liked it
What was the first concert you ever went to?
Oscar Sardiñas: Three Dog Night at Gulfstream Park. I don't remember. They were good but I kinda wandered the grounds with my friends while our parents watched more so than paid attention to it. I was 12 and into punk at the time.
Jovi Adames: I believe the first concert I deliberately went was a Korn concert. The sound of the bass blew my mind I love them. It was during school week so I escaped my mom and told her I was doing a school project. Venezuela isn't very safe so you just can't roam around freely.
What was the first album you ever bought?
Oscar Sardiñas: What was the first album you ever bought? Kriss Kross "Totally Krossed Out"
Jovi Adames: I inherited most of them through my brother but the first one I bought was Toxicity by System of a Down. Still amazing. People hate on nu metal but these guys are beyond that I believe.
What was the first song you learned how to play?
Oscar Sardiñas: "What a Waster" by The Libertines. Funny enough it's the same chords as "Karma Police" by Radiohead, or close enough.
Jovi Adames: Smells like teen spirit. CLASSIC.
What was the first movie you saw in the theaters? What was that like?
Oscar Sardiñas: I think it was Fantasia. I'm bad at remembering firsts maybe I'm scared of being too reverent to the moment. I do remember Fantasia though and the ghost scene being totally epic. Kinda wanna watch that now!
Jovi Adames: According to my mom the first movie that I ever went was Dracula by Bram Stoker and apparently I cried when the movie ended.
Any final comments? (This is your electronic soapbox for one last answer.)
Oscar Sardiñas: Stay informed, limit your screen time and go create something. Thanks for having us!
Jovi Adames: ADIOOOOOOOOOOOOS. Hope you enjoy the music and the things to come.
