Meet HUCK
Anyone familiar with American Lit is aware of the loose canon that is Mr. Huckleberry “Huck” Finn — a carefree spirit bopping along and wreaking havoc.
Now meet Huck; a Brooklyn native that follows in the footsteps of his moniker’s namesake, and stays true to his roots. This project delivers some excellently playful and eclectic tunes — woozy weirdness meets pop meets funk meets SoundCloud synth. A jack of all trades!

Would You Rather…
be able to jump a hundred feet in the air, or make things move with your mind? What would you do?
Make things move with my mind! I would obliterate all traffic in my path.
Some Questions with HUCK
What music played in your house while growing up? Has it influenced the music you are making today?
My dad is a musician so there’s always been a lot. I remember a lot of The Beatles and James Brown. My first grade teacher made the class a mixtape with a lot of great stuff on it. Kraftwerk, young Stevie Wonder, Chet Baker, Manu Chao, and more. I would say all of it has played a part.
What was your most memorable performance, and why?
At the very end of my freshman year of college, I played a house show. It was right after writing “Nunca Más” and my first time performing it. Extremely cathartic.
What was the last thing you bought that you regret?
An apparently non-functioning synth module.
If you could go to a bowling alley with any three people, right now who would they be? Why?
No one I suck at bowling.
Your sound collects a lot of complex layers. Where does the process usually begin when you are putting together a new song?
Usually starts with just a chord progression either written on guitar or piano and some lyrics. Sometimes, there’ll just be a sound that I want to work with. I’m always looking to try something new. Music is most fun when it’s surprising.
Do you have a piece of musical gear that you have been really into lately?
I recently took the plunge into modular synths. It was totally unnecessary but jeez it’s fun.
If you had to be on one reality TV show which one would it be? What would you do?
MTV Cribs. I would love to have a big house.
Who are your favorite bands active in NYC right now?
Young Thaddeus. They only have demos out on soundcloud, and they don’t play a lot, but when they do it’s fucked up. And Phony Ppl.
Are you self taught in music production or did you learn from someone else?
Self taught with the help of youtube and google.
Which is better Play-Doh or Silly Putty? Why?
Silly Putty cause it gets outta hand quick.
Being born and raised in Brooklyn what is the most significant change you have noticed in the music scene over the years?
That’s kinda hard. Obviously a lot of places have shut down, mostly DIY spots, and for a minute it seemed like new places weren’t popping up, but recently I’ve been to a few. It made me remember that the best places are always secrets, and survive on that fact. It’s hard to say what’s changed because I’ve gotten older and making music at 15 is a lot different than making music at 25. I really hope there’s still Brooklyn kids hassling promoters for weekend slots.
Any final comments? (This is your electronic soapbox for one last answer.)
The Sopranos is peak television.
