Gus Dapperton | Where Polly People Go To Read
Family Average: 5/7
Look below and see what the family had to say.
I first found Gus Dapperton when I clicked on his video for “I’m Just Snacking” back in 2017 cus he dresses like me. From there I found all his singles and loved them for their intelligent lyrics, upbeat synths, and sounds and the way he is just himself. I went to see him in Santiago de Chile, what a world.
This album is a bit different than his original singles, a little more somber and slow while still upbeat if that makes sense. It’s a fun one with depth and diversity in style.
“She said jeopardy is fake my love/ live life like its practice” love that line from “My Favorite Fish” as well as the tones and colors of that video to back it up.

All aboard the Gus Bus, captain! Listening to this album is the same as standing in a bar bathed in neon lights with palms, small glasses with little black straws, and overly friendly bartenders. I don’t mean to sound cynical, this just happens to be one of the most overtly “millennial” things I have heard in a while. Even though I can see all the strings, I still don’t mind letting it pull me around and dance like a puppet. And it will do the same to you folks. This music is head bobbing tummy rubbing good times. Gus lays his heart on the line and I really believe it comes from a genuine place.
From a production standpoint, the sound is crisp and pleasant. There are no points in the album that will bring on any discomfort. The album is a sweet treat and has won over a grumpy groggy person.
4/7
The synth is so smooth, the vocals soulful, and the reverb-heavy. Dapperton’s voice feels special — a little rose-tinted and nostalgic, but extremely, extremely relevant to the current ‘90s ob. It’s got that lo-fi bedroom-pop quirk.
Lyrically, Dapperton exudes a sincerity that is somehow precious and intimate. But the gauzy and hazy production is what really hooked me. His attention to detail and the amount of texture layered into each song makes it all sound crisp and cohesive.
5/7
I feel this is a fun, easygoing, indie/synth pop album. The production is very professional with a lot of attention to detail. I like when an artist puts together songs in an album that not only work well together but also show you all facades of their artistic abilities. That's what Gus Dapperton has done here. Whether or not you love this genre, there are tracks here you will definitely enjoy!
6/7
This collection of songs works well as a cohesive piece. All of the tracks are upbeat and the percussion works well with the laid-back vocals. “Eyes for Ellis” was a stand out track with a catchy updated disco vibe. Quality production with clean vocals there is a whole lot of fun stuff here for the listener. “My Favorite Fish” was a new spin on the rock ballad, mixing indie-pop with some classic musical arrangements all working well to tell an intimate tale.
