Meet GUNK
Prepare yourself for some uncontrollable and relentless headbanging good times. GUNK has arrived and there is no sign of them going anywhere. The project plunges the depths of the hard rock and proto-metal ethos to some fantastic results. In our latest interview, we chat with Robert Preston about GUNK’s latest release, and where on earth it came from.
“BICYCLE RIDING” a fill in the blank with GUNK
Most doctors agree that bicycle POOPING is a WONKY form of exercise that benefits DOGS.of all ages. Riding a bicycle enables you to develop your PENIS muscles as well as INSIDE increase the rate of your THUMB beat. Bicycle riding is also a STINKS means of TURTLE. More PATIO FURNITURE around the world SHIT.bicycles than drive BAG OF CHIPS. No matter what kind of SWIMMING POOL you ride, always be sure to wear a COCKATOO on your head and have reflectors on your BUTTHOLE, especially if you RUN at night.
Would you rater
your favorite restaurant be modified to have massage chairs that are on at all times, or there is a clown in there doing clown things at all times? Please explain why.
Clown, because at any lull in the conversation I could point at the clown and say, "Hey look it's a clown." Also, I feel it is important to support your local clowns, more clowns = less frowns.
Some questions with GUNK
What was the catalyst that initially brought GUNK together?
We got asked to play a show as a different band that we had, but we didn't want to play that music so we made a new band.
There is a strong undercurrent of proto-metal and hard rock in GUNK’s sound. Where did the inspiration for this come from?
It's definitely a product of the answer to question 1.
What was the process like putting together a release through mostly remote sessions?
We found the tapes and demoed stuff out across the country. Bass would get recorded in SF and then emailed, scratch drums and vocals would get added in NY, and then we got together in SF and recorded the album.
Are you a dog person or a cat person? Neither?
Neither
What is the last book you read? Was it any good?
Combating the Cult Mindset and yes it was great. Helped me develop empathy for religious people.
What GUNK song are you most looking forward to playing live once we can have concerts again?
We're On A Time Crunch Baby
Through GUNK you have revisited material recorded back in 2011. What was the most surprising thing you found when referring to these old tapes?
That the lyrical content is still topical 10 years later and it's just as fun to play as it was then, maybe more.
