Meet Golden Kong

Golden Kong is going to save my weekend. I may have done a little of overindulging the night before and I am feeling the effects of it this morning. Never fear however because I HAVE BEEN REVIVED by the thumping beats of Golden Kong. In their latest release “Rolê de Moto” they combine techno and Brazilian baile funk with terrific results. Get to know the artist as we talk about their influences, gear, and vampires.

“JULIUS CAESAR” A fill in the blank by, Golden Kong

Julius Caesar was born in 102 B. F. He was a NICE general, and between 49 and 58 B.C. he defeated the Gauls, the Goths, and the PACK. After that, he DEFINITELY became more famous and defeated Pompey at the battle of NEW YORK CITY at Pharsala. The Romans then elected him permanent SCOOTERING, and he used to walk around wearing a circlet of ivy leaves on his BOOBS. Then Caesar went to Egypt, where he met Cleopatra, the teenage Egyptian POTATO. When he conquered the Syrians in 46 B.C., he sent back a message saying, "Veni, vedi, PIZZA." In 44 B.C., a soothsayer told Caesar to "Beware the Ides of SODA," but he ignored the warning and in March he was stabbed in the SNEAKER by a group of senators. His last words were, "Et tu DONATELLO?"

Would You Rather

be a vampire cowboy in the old west or a werewolf knight in medieval times? Please tell us why.

A werewolf knight would be better, even though I like the idea of vampires, they can't be out on a sunny day and that's definitely a disadvantage for me.

Some questions with Golden Kong

What's your workflow like when working on a new song?

My workflow is not even close to be special, I usually open my ableton live and start to work on something that makes me feel goof, everything done with my mouse and sometimes using my akai LPK25.

Do you have a piece of gear that you have been really into lately?

Is this gear related to clothing or musical equipment lol. Like I said I don't really produce with nothing special, most of my songs are made only with some clicks. If it's related to clothing, well, you're talking to someone who likes sneakers and I'm totally in love with my reebok x pyer moss.

What do you want people to take away from your 2020 release “Rolê de Moto”?

I was planning an techno EP for a while now, for the past 3 years I've been producing a lot of stuff that I haven't released yet and exploring some new sounds, it was a very good experience, it made me understand more about the whole rave/ techno culture and where I could fit better. From this EP I want people to understand that there's a lot more to explore, don't be stuck on things you already know. Another important thing is that your own culture can fit anywhere, you just have to believe in that.

What was your first email address and or AIM username?

My first email I still have till today and it's kinda boring, one of my brothers made it but I had a funny nickname/ username, dafanta, it was given to me because in 4th grade I brought a can of Fanta to my recess and I don't know how but people started to call me that, which means "the one who owns a Fanta" or something like that.

What kind of music was playing in your house when you were growing up? Has it influenced what you are making today?

It definitely did, one of my brothers used to buy dance music compilations when he was a teenager and I used to listen to them A LOT, dancing in the living room, or in the car with my mom. I think I know most of the eurodance anthems because of that. I also was influenced by my mom with brazilian music, and it totally helped me in my first musical project Arcade Fighters.

What has been the most positive effect making music has had on your life?

I met a lot of talented people because of music and made a lot of good friends, people who I can trust and will be by my side no matter what. That might be the most important thing that happened to me.

What was your best hiding spot in hide-and-go-seek?

I grew up in an 8 building condo, we had a hide-and-seek kind of game that can be translated from portuguese to "police-and-robber" and the best spot was always the garbage room.

Any final comments? (This is your electronic soapbox for one last answer.)

Was a very funny interview, thanks for having me and I would like to invite the readers to listen to my new release "Rolê de Moto" available on all streaming platforms, and make sure to follow me on instagram @golden_kong and soundcloud, where I post all my new releases including some nice bootlegs.
