Fear Not Ourselves Alone | You in the Heart of Everyone

Sean

I am so glad to be brought back into the realm of hard-hitting emotional punky rock tunes. Fear Not Ourselves Alone blends the saddest parts of midwest emo, and punky folk ensembles to bring forth a more raw and pointed sound. This EP brings me back to what I listened to growing up in the suburbs of New Jersey. Bands like Defiance Ohio and Ghost Mice helped give shape to all these weird amorphous feelings inside my person. I can see this music doing that for a lot of others in the world.

Message and meaning aside the music are fast and loose, which is what you really want from a release in this genre. The cymbals smash, the vocals howl and the whole thing has a lovely rough texture. Some of the lyrics were a little on the nose, but I understand the power in coming out right and saying exactly what you are feeling. Especially in the gravity of the topics discussed in this EP.

I really enjoyed this EP. Their music is tastefully done, it’s similar to other stuff I have heard but yet very very different. "Trans Real" has a nice surprise ending with an acoustic guitar bit. This EP is interesting in that the music is melodic; yet, the poignant lyrics draw a dark contrast to the melody, I believe they are intended to touch the soul, to compel the listener to feel empathy. All of the tracks are a wonderful contradiction. This EP is reminiscent or characteristic of New York peaceful composition, although the biting cold winters remind you that you are alive.

These people successfully set a mood of serenity juxtaposed with suffering, and passion. I believe that any time music makes you feel something, it's worth a listen.

Lo-fi songs such as these give you no choice but to understand each and every word. They just told their story, truthfully and full of all their real hurt and pain and there's no turning away from it. I always love vocals such as these not only for the lyrics but also because that hurt is in the voice, raw and apparent.
