At Respectable Street, a small concert venue in West Palm Beach, Florida, an eclectic group of concert goers of all races and ages (well, those over 18), dressed up and dressed down, began to fill the space last Friday around 8 pm. By simply observing the crowd, you’d likely have no idea what kind of music to expect. The venue itself is quite quirky - a deer and a bear, wearing clothes and sitting at a table hang upside down from the ceiling, and the walls are covered in large scale paintings that have projections moving on top of them, giving it a psychedelic feel. So what bands could Endoxa Booking and the Limitless Agency possibly book to acquire this unique audience in this unique space? Local rock band openers Bianca Jazmine and Supergold, and none other than Drake Bell - yes, THE Drake Bell of Drake & Josh.

Pop rock singer songwriter Bianca Jazmine started the show off strong with compelling stage presence. She was able to talk and joke directly with the crowd, at one point mentioning “this next song is a piano ballad and I don't know what its called. That’s not the name of the song, I really don’t know. If you have any ideas, help me out.” Jazmine’s voice was absolutely breathtaking, and her ability to sing, dance, and unapologetically enjoy life was inspiring. Her band, comprised of four young men, was clearly just as happy to be there.

The music itself was fun and upbeat, keeping the crowd energized throughout the whole set. A beautiful, confident woman fronting a talented rock band is something that should absolutely be acknowledged and celebrated.

I photographed indie rock band Supergold last summer at the start of their time together, with this show being the first time I had seen them in months. Imagine my surprise as the crowd began to chant “Supergold” as they set up! This six piece band is taking South Florida by storm. They kicked off their set with Fast Times, infecting the space with their catchy dance beat and frontman Alex Alston’s quintessential dance moves. Girls in the front row were fangirling hard over Alex, grabbing his hand as he reached towards the crowd. The energy Supergold brought to the stage was truly magical, and the crowd gave it right back.

Now, for the man we’ve all been waiting for - Drake Bell. Juxtaposing the two opening bands, Bell went on stage with just a guitar. He had a much more mellow singer-songwriter vibe going on, with much of the crowd just standing, listening, and recording. He begins to talk about Drake & Josh and the crowd explodes. He reminds the crowd of the episode “Number 1 Fan” where Megan’s friend from girl scouts, Wendy, has a huge crush on Drake. By the end of the episode, Drake sings her a cute little song about being her friend, which he sang for the crowd. After indulging us on a trip down memory lane, he completely switched tracks and sang a song from his “favorite Florida songwriter” - Lil Pump’s Guccie Gang. He also sang one of his new songs, Fuego Lento, which was completely in Spanish. Clearly, he has quite the repertoire. To wrap up the night, he sang the Drake & Josh theme song, fulfilling all of our childhood dreams.
