Meet Dig Nitty

As you may know, we really like to dig deep on this here blog. Get down to the nitty gritty. Delivering you fine people some music with pride and respect!

So, obviously we called in Dig Nitty. This crew lives up to their moniker, delivering some pretty honorable lo-fi tunes. They also answered all of our questions, which is equally honorable.

Below, we chit chat about family traditions, the definition of “dignity,” and their upcoming debut record.

Would You Rather…

If you could pick one species of animals besides people to become 15 times their current size which one would you choose? Why?

We would select the bleu whale (Balaenoptera musculus). This would put them at about 1500 feet in length.

Some Questions with Dig Nitty

Where/how do you put your thoughts when creating a song?

Erin: Usually a musical idea is born while I am meditating on a memory and the music and lyrics both grow out of it.

What is the creative process like between all of you?

Bernardo: Well I really like when we make shared playlists on spotify and we all add songs that fit a certain vibe. That helps us get on the same page. Then whenever we rehearse new material, Erin brings in the skeleton of the song and we all kind of think of parts that fit that vibe. And I like how nothing is every really done — if we feel like it we still edit things that have been "done" for a year or two!

If you could only use 10 words for the rest of your life what would they be?

All: please follow me on instagram facebook spotify twitter tinder thank

Do you have a favorite family tradition?

Erin: We love to drive late into the night, arrive at our next destination in the wee hours, quietly make chili in a pressure cooker that has possibly been recalled and b a little bit nervous that it will explode the whole time. <3 We try to do this several times per tour.

Do you have any upcoming projects that you are excited about?

Erin: We just finished recording our first record! It should be out next year!

What was your first band/musical project?

Bernardo: The Violet Imperative

Erin: No Comment

Reggie: unnamed band

How do you define "dignity" within the music industry?

I think we're very far from the music industry. Our DIY community is full of dignity and that means kindness love and being true to you!

How do you approach fuzz/distortion?

Erin: All the demos that we make are blown out by putting the trim too high on the four track. We do it to the drums, the vocals, and the guitars. When we're playing live or recording not on the four track, Bernardo and I both have the same distortion pedal, it's called Tube Drive and is by Donner and costs 20 bucks. It's amazing!! They don't make them any more but they're floating around on the web.

What was the first song you learned how to play?

Reggie: Doll Parts by Hole
Bernardo: Time of Your Life by Green Day
Erin: Holiday by Green Day
we loveyou Billy Joe!!

Where do you fall in the shoegaze spectrum?

Erin: I think we have moments.

What are your favorite bands active in NYC right now?

Thug, Youbet, Bad Kiss, Dark Tones, Marblemouth, Thelma, Joanna Sternberg, Privacy Issues, Ritual Talk,

Zuzia, Poppies, Groupie, Big Net, .michael.

Are you better at thumb wrestling or rock paper scissors? What’s your strategy?

Erin: I'm better at thumb wrestling. I go for the surprise attack.

Reggie: Rock paper scissors. I cheat :-)

Bernardo: Rock paper scissors. I just feel out the vibes.

Any final comments? (This is your electronic soapbox for one last answer.)

Thank you for having us!
