BOWLING: A Mad-Lib by Career Boy

Almost every community in America now has a bowling THE OFFICE because bowling has become very HARD-WORKING with young PROMISES. Most of them become very DETAIL-ORIENTED at the game. The main object of the game is to roll a heavy bowling CLOCK-PUNCHER.down the alley and knock down the 42.pins which are at the other end. If you knock them down in one roll, it's called a THWAP. If it takes two rolls, it's called a SKIRT SKIRT. Many alleys have automatic INSURANCE setters. Others hire BENEFITS who set the pins by INTERN. The most important thing to remember when bowling is to make sure you have a good grip on the DRONE.or you're liable to drop it on your GUNS!

Would You Rather

your bed breathe heavily, or narrate everything you are doing.

I have to go with the former and say I'd rather my bed breathes heavily. These days it feels like I narrate everything I do and I've got to say, I'm really starting to get on my nerves.

Some questions with Career Boy

How did Career Boy Come to be?

Career Boy came about because we wanted to start expressing some specific feelings and thoughts we had been kickin' around for a bit. We've all played in plenty of bands (our drummer is in like 15 still - no loyalty smh) around the city with varying success, but just felt like they were a bit directionless. Songs about girls and partying and "baby" and "awwww yeah" and Bon Jovi Rock-Locks and-- well you get the idea. All that stuff is well and good, but we just wanted a bit of a change, an outlet for some songs that were different and didn't necessarily fit in with the other music we were making.

Do you drink Coffee or Tea? How do you take it?

We drink coffee and we take that shit black. Only way we can give our employers 110%, 24/7, 7 days a week, 3-4 weeks a month, 12 months a year baby!!!!!! *pours more coffee* Oh, and iced is preferable.

How do you keep the creative momentum of the project going during quarantine?

Quarantine has actually been working out nicely for us creatively. Right now, we're prepping to record our first EP and besides having plenty of time to focus on the writing we've also been able to spend more time than we normally would recording demos. This whole pandemic thing is also constantly exposing the shortcomings of our society: the parasitic nature of employer-employee relationships, the inability of individuals to properly save, and the general incompetence of the government and healthcare system. All of which provide great inspiration for our songwriting : )

How would you define Jog-Rock?

Jog-Rock is a genre that makes you want to move, but not dance. It makes you want to sing, but not bother to learn all the words. It's a middle-of-the-road genre for people who are aware that they could do better but are either unsure of how to go about doing so or happy settling for what they already have.

Where is your favorite place to find/discover new music?

Before we weren't allowed outside, our favorite places to discover new music were local venues in Brooklyn and Manhattan. That's always great for finding unestablished acts. We also find a ton of new music through friends and the internet, primarily social media. These days there's so much music and it's all so easily accessible you can find great new stuff just by touching base with an old friend (or that roommate you can't stand anymore).

What was the best toy you remember from your childhood?

Growing up there was this toy we called 'Big Batman' which was just a Batman action figure that was a bit larger than most of the other action figures we had at the time. It was amazing. It'd stomp on all the smaller, shittier action figures and hoard all of our attention (which we assume is the currency of toys) for itself. Definitely, the first recollection of "bigger is better" and "more is more"; mindsets that still guide us to this day.

What was the creative process like working on the video for “What’s Next”. Are you happy with how it came out?

This video came along backward in a lot of ways. We shot it in July 2019 because a buddy of ours had access to this really nice camera. It was kinda this "oh shit" moment where we wanted to take advantage of the opportunity but had nothing prepared. At the time, 'What's Next?' wasn't recorded, even in demo form, and the lyrics were completely up in the air still. Anyway, we were kickin' it at the 'ol country club, drinking Stella Artois and talking about philosophy and decided that we'd explore the Stoic "Dog and Wagon" simile. This basically is the idea that life is like a dog tied to a wagon, you're the dog and the wagon is fate (your job) or whatever you want to call it: no matter what you do, or what choices you make, you have to go where the wagon goes. And so, we explored this literally in the video, maybe to a fault. That said, our marketing team told us "dogs sell" and our executives really insisted that we pursue the video in this way. We're definitely happy with it though.

Any final comments? (This is your electronic soapbox for one last answer.)

We'd just like to extend our best wishes to everyone going through hard times right now. Do good, be kind, and share your love ✌
