Meet UV TV

We’ve got some delicious melodic punk on the menu for you today. Today’s special is UVTV, a crew that makes the prolific punk movement proud. Nutritious, delicious, energetic, and stylistic, this trio stays true to their garage-band roots and makes us hungry for more. We had the chance to talk with the Gainesville-transplants about pre-show fernet, walkie-talkie-ing with inspiration, and the importance of DIY.

EAT, DRINK, AND BE SICK: A Mad-Lib by UVTV

An inspector from the Department of Health and BUCKET Services paid a surprise visit to our UNFAVORABLE school cafeteria. The lunch special, prepared by our GREASY dietician, was spaghetti and SWINGSET-balls with a choice of either a KNIFE salad or French BANANAS. The inspector found the meat-FACE MASKS to be overcooked and discovered a live TRASH COMPACTOR in the fries, causing him to have a KNUCKLE ache. In response, he threw up all over his LOCKETS. In his report, the inspector SWIMMINGLY recommended that the school cafeteria serve only nutritious PHOTOGRAPHS as well as low-calorie STARS, and that all of the saturated JEANS be eliminated. He rated the cafeteria a V-minus.

UVTV: Two small wheels because you have to feed the cats.

Some questions with UVTV

Do you have any rituals or routines before a live performance?

Rose: Not so much we usually practice a few days before and soundcheck if we can make it. Sometimes well take shots together.

Ian Rose:  Showing up as late as possible so we don't have to wait around for hours.

Ian Bernacett: Shots of fernet and hanging out in the green room.

What brought you to New York?

Rose: We wanted a change and a new challenge. We just passed our two-year mark of living in NYC.

Ian Rose: High Rent gets me hot.  

Ian Bernacett: I was bored.  I wanted to move here a long time ago and it didn't work out until now..

If you had a magic walkie talkie that could only talk to one person dead or alive who would it be?

Rose: Probably Patti Smith because she is a huge inspiration to me. 

What made you want to cover The Jesus and Mary Chain?

Rose: Towards the end of last year Ian Bernacett made a demo of "Happy Place" and it turned out so much better then we thought it would so we decided to release it. 

If you could compare your music to one dish which would it be and why?

Ian Bernacett: Lasanga.

How has the DIY ethic shaped your work?

Rose: There would be no UV-TV if we didn’t do it ourselves. For better or for worse we have always done everything on our own.

Any final comments? (This is your electronic soapbox for one last answer.)

Rose: I feel like at this moment in time we are just happy to be healthy and are taking it one day at a time. We pretty much have our next record mapped out and can’t wait to record it which we will do very soon.
