Meet Blonder

Can anyone confirm or deny if blonde’s really do have more fun? Jury’s out on my end. 

We called up Constantine, the mastermind behind the Brooklyn-based act Blonder, but he offered no insight into the aforementioned question. However, he did give us a pretty good bank robbery plan. 

Below, we talk to the New Wave, 80’s influenced rocker about his origins, his first performance, and get some advice for all the upcoming whippersnappers out there. Give it a peep!

A CHARMING STORY WITH A HAPPY ENDING: A Mad-Lib by, Blonder

No story ever told seems to GENTLYcapture the hearts and BOOKS of BLURRY readers as does the legend of King Arthur and the CONSTRUCTION WORKERS of the NUMB table. If we choose to believe the Arthur legend and go along with the story that this LITTLE king removed from a LIGHT stone the COOL sword called Excalibur, then we are giving ourselves permission to enjoy this evening's performance. So without further ado let us visit the kingdom of Camelot, where POWERFUL knights perform heroic FERRARI'S, rescue a TELEMARKETERS in a BERET of armor, and ride off on majestic DOGS in search of adventure.

Would You Rather

all the glass in the world be made of stained glass, or every light in the world is replaced with a disco ball? Why?

disco ball. bc it will make rooms more exciting. and bc stained glass reminds me of the church and the renaissance.

Some questions with Blonder

How did Blonder come to be?

the first summer I was out of school I worked in Manhattan and realized that it was not where I wanted to be at all and that being a salaryman was not going to make me happy. not sure abt all that anymore but it definitely led me to aggressively pursue songwriting for its own sake. after a bunch of bands and projects, blonder came together as the official thing I do.

What was your first live performance like?

It was at Elvis Guesthouse in the east village of NYC. a very beautiful night.

Where are you usually at a house party?

I could be anywhere just having a drink and hanging, the last one I was at I was in the kitchen. and outside.

What have been your greatest musical influences?

Been p obsessed with music for my whole life so it’s more abt phases of interest in a certain genre/ sound/ band/ singer etc :) i got into some psych stuff. apparently i always mix whatever i’m into with a little bit of digestible pop, for better or worse.

What has been your most formative musical experience in the city?

Just growing up here with friends who have music projects and seeing people create things for their life, bc they love to make stuff, regardless of anything else. and the pursuit of that one thing u haven’t made yet.

What advice do you have for younger acts looking to get a start in NY?

Write a lot of songs, try and actively get smarter abt how music works in a vaguely technical sense, be honest as possible and have tremendous care and patience with your craft.

What is your dream bank robbery scenario? (location, methods, is it a success/mess..)?

It’s a big success and it’s planned for years and years and it involves secretly digging a hole from an adjacent property to under the vault. randomly I read abt a heist like this that happened in brazil in the 90’s I think.
