The minute you pose a threat, the minute your soul’s in debt.”

Meet 7xvethegenius

One of the locally famous murals “Keep Buffalo A Secret” might have to step aside as 7xvethegenius is getting ready to drop her third and latest album. Coming up from the East Side in similar footsteps to famed artists like Rick James, she is now in the studio working alongside contemporaries Conway the Machine and Jae Skeese to bring forth an album of her very own vision and likeness on the new label Drumwork Music. Her artistic testaments strive to establish how all Buffalo musicians can bring unique sounds and perspectives to the table while still representing the same city and to break down the current industry and culture narrative that frames women as their sex/gender first before their craft.

Her music combines the roots of Hip Hop with modern genre-blending and breaks, at times even switching up the feel in the same song. The storytelling of her lyricism brings out both the struggle and success that come from a place of ambition, authenticity, nostalgia and most of all, love. Her previous works including her debut album 7xve is Love and more recently Self 7xve are filled with not only pride but nothing less than head-nodding bangers. The kind of music you can reach to shuffle play and kick back to while every track doesn’t stand down from putting things in perspective. In a brief Q&A, we learn the in’s and out’s of 7xve’s creative drive and state of mind.

What has been your vision for this forthcoming album?

My project is called Death of Deuce. The vision behind D.O.D. is really to just show the world that real art and lyricism still exists.

What does the title "Break Soul" mean to you?

Break Soul is just meant to be what it is, a song full of flows and bars that you've either never heard or haven't heard in years.

How have the studio sessions been? Any new breakthroughs and/or setbacks? Advice for other musicians?

Sessions are always amazing.  Being amongst elite lyricists like Conway and Skeese, I always have to push myself to make every bar count.  My advice for other musicians would be to not put yourself in any box and to fully explore whatever creative ideas you have.

Who are some artists you've admired over the years?

I admire creatives like Tyler The Creator, Solange, Kendrick Lamar and Pharrell, for their creative freedoms.

Your recently featured track "Crack In The Nineties" off From King to A GOD with Conway & Jae Skeese was amazing. Any backstory of how that track came to be? What was it like working on it?

I knew Conway would have us on a song of his, we just never knew which one.  He sent the Roc Marciano produced “Crack in The Nineties” beat and said to just go in, so that's what I did.

What inspires you in your daily life? What keeps you going?

I'm inspired by the struggle of being from Buffalo, and it finally having the platform it deserves to tell our story.  I keep going because I still have friends and family in the hood.

During the midnight instagram live release Conway said, "This is what the culture need," what does that mean to you?

To me, that means there's a void in the game that he feels like I can confidently fill.

Anyone you'd like to shoutout/send your appreciation to? Any other local artists or friends you'd like people to show love and support for?

I'd like to send appreciation to everyone who has helped and supported me to this point and those who will in the future as I continue to make history.

Any last statement messages for the fans?
